News & Views – Really

News and Views

Well, it’s time for another installment of News & Views because…say it with me…It’s Friday! (Or, Saturday depending where in the world you are.)  So, let’s see what’s going on, shall we?

First, remember that’s it’s Diabetes Awareness Month all month long.

I have pre-diabetes. What should I eat?Yes, the nutrition advice you’ll hear for prediabetes can be contradictory, oversimplified and impractical for the long haul. Yet research has revealed plenty about how a person with prediabetes should eat to remain diabetes-free as long as possible.”  You know that working to reverse Pre-diabetes is near and dear to my heart.  This is at least a beginning place for those 79,000,000 people with Pre-diabetes.

12 myths about insulin and type 2 diabetes  “…most people think of insulin as a difficult, painful, or potentially scary medical treatment. The problem is that if you have type 2 diabetes, you need to know the real deal before you can make an informed choice about whether or not this potentially lifesaving therapy is right for you.” Our friendly neighborhood pharmacist, Katherine, has written about insulin.  This article provides interesting facts and reveals more truths about the medication.

The Truth behind Type 2 Diabetes Myths  “There are a lot of misconceptions surrounding every common disease, and type 2 diabetes is no different. Even patients with diabetes and their family members may be misinformed. Here are eight common myths associated with type 2 diabetes.”  Must be the week for myth busting!  But, there is so much mis-information out there about the disease that it boggles the mind.  A great article to begin to calm fears and prepare to fight your War On Diabetes.

6 Steps to a Long and Healthy Life   “The CDC published a report in 2004, another in 2007 and the latest one in 2013. It should come as no surprise to any of us that the leading causes of death for older Americans are heart disease, cancer, stroke, lower respiratory disease, Alzheimer’s and diabetes…As an outgrowth of the report, the CDC further provides a guide for older Americans to help us prevent disease and improve our overall health.”  A common sense way to live your life and do what’s good for you.  Funny how this article appears just as I was writing about health.

Myths and Facts about Diabetes Treatment  “What is diabetes about? Here are some myths and facts adapted from the American Diabetes Association, or ADA, about this often misunderstood disease:…”  More myth busting.  See a trend here?  But, you will find valuable information in this short article…it’s all about control – like we didn’t know that.

A whole lot more news here.

As always, thank you for reading.  And, continue the good fight in your War On Diabetes (or, Pre-diabetes). You can win!

I am not a doctor or health professional. I am just a guy who is working everyday to control Type 2 Diabetes. My goal is to offer hope, help and solutions for day-to-day living for the diabetic. The disease can be controlled. It can be managed. And, you can do it!
