Three Guys Meet In a Bar…

Three Guys

Three guys meet in a bar….wait, that’s a whole other story.

There were three of us standing around talking today doing a quick catch-up.  I won’t bore you with the details, but the three of us had something in common.  Yep, you guessed it – Diabetes.

Drew (since I don’t have permission to use his name – not his real name) is a Type 1 and uses Insulin.  I was the resident Type 2, but off Diabetes Meds.  And, Eddy took Prediabetes seriously and beat it through diet and exercise.  Clearly, Eddy is smarter than I am.

Just so I don’t ruffle any feathers, I know that Type 1 Diabetes is totally different than Type 2.  The only thing they have in common is the name, Diabetes.  Once you are past that, they are very, very different.

But, I want to focus on Eddy for just a moment.  A couple of years ago he was told he had Prediabetes.  What did he do? He took it seriously because he was smart enough not to want Diabetes.  He changed his diet.  Eliminated a few things he just loved. And, he began to exercise.  Weight was lost.  He became healthier.  Within six months, no more Prediabetes. Very impressive. By the way, he has kept the weight off and has maintained his diet.

Eddy is just a guy.  He may well be special to a number of people, including me, but he does not have any super-powers, nor was he born on another planet.  He’s just a guy who took Prediabetes seriously.  And, so can you.  Learn from Eddy and fight Prediabetes.  What’s the worst that can happen?  You postpone a disease? How great is that…controlling the onset of a disease.  Talk about a real super power.  And, you will be healthier for it.

Yeah, I know you have heard that word – healthier – for a long time.  I know I did.  In fact, if someone used the word healthier to me, I just stopped listening.  What did they know, right?  Well, as it turns out, I didn’t know what I was missing. I really can’t explain it to you any better than telling  you that I have a very strong sense of well-being that I have not had for years.  I feel better.  I am stronger.  And, I have not been really sick for almost three years.

It took me getting Diabetes to get this way.  Eddy was smarter.  He has all of the benefits of being healthy without having to get Diabetes.

Learn from Eddy’s experience.  Fight your War On Diabetes early – before it happens.

Think about it.  What’s the worst that can happen.  You lose a bit of weight.  Improve your diet.  And, are healthier as a result.

That sounds like a pretty good deal.

As always, thank you for reading.

I am not a doctor or health professional. I am just a guy who is working everyday to control Type 2 Diabetes. My goal is to offer hope, help and solutions for day-to-day living for the diabetic. The disease can be controlled. It can be managed. And, you can do it!

Well done to Eddy. A good example for others to learn from.
Regards from England, as always, Pete.
