Creepy Crawlies

Crreepy Crawlies

Isn’t that title appropriate for Halloween time?  Can’t you just see the spiders, snakes and other reptiles creeping along silently coming to get you?  Can’t you just feel their eyes watching?  Can you feel them waiting until the right moment to strike?

The sad truth is you don’t know until it’s too late.

I have to tell you that I was recently the victim of an attack of the Creepy Crawlies.  And, I can tell you they are silent and in league with Diabetes.  You had to know that was coming, right?  And, just what are the Creepy Crawlies?

Last week I found myself eating just a bit more than normal…really just a little bit.  An extra few carbs here and there.  Not many.  Ten here.  Fifteen over there.  Not a lot at any one time.  In and of itself, not real bad, but not good.  The Creepy Crawlies were attacking and I was a willing victim to their wily ways.

On top of that, I did not walk five days.  It was a conspiracy, I tell you.  Time and circumstance did not give me the opportunity to walk like I normally do.  An Attack by the Creepy Crawlies and I was defenseless.  Or, was I?

I could have adjusted my diet a little – not much.  Or, just decided not to have that bit extra.  Doing that alone would probably have defeated them.  But, no, I couldn’t do that, could I?

Let me tell you a little secret – we are all attacked by the CC’s.  We are attacked when we are the most vulnerable.  I was tired, hungry and not walking…bad mojo.

Remember, I control my Diabetes through Diet and Exercise.  If I am not exercising as I know I should, I should pay a bit more attention to my diet, right?  I keep things in such a tight balance that if anything that happens – or does not happen, there will be a reaction.  If I am eating a bit extra, I should exercise a bit more.  But, no…not last week…that did not happen.

Look, it doesn’t matter if you are trying to control Diabetes, or you are working on controlling your weight (and often the two go hand-in-hand), you are going to fall victim to the Creepy Crawlies.  Just be aware they are around every corner. Know you can beat them back.  Yes they are sneaky, but you are strong.

Have I made an adjustment?  Oh, yes.  I am back out on my walk – making the time to walk.  I am in a 10K later this month and now my little training schedule is out the window.  Will I make it up?  Probably.  Just a few more three mile walks and one more 5.5 mile walk and I should be okay.

And, I am telling myself no when I want a bit of a roll or something I know comes with a cost.  I do not want to be attacked by the Creepy Crawlies, again.  The reality is that we will all be attacked by the Creepy Crawlies.  One way or another they will strike. It’s what we do when we are being attacked by this crafty enemy that will determine if we win the War On Diabetes.

If you are battling Prediabetes, watch for them.  The Creepy Crawlies will come after you, too.  You need to win your War so you never have Diabetes – or put it off as long as possible.

You can Win…I know it.  You need to know it, too.

As always, thank you for reading.

At least you are aware of the dangers Phil, and doing your best to resist them. So many others are oblivious to the temptations, and the problems that result. Good Halloween twist as well, a very American festival that has transferred over here- big time! (Mind you it originated here, as did a lot of US traditions…) Regards from England, Pete.
