A lot of us with Diabetes or Prediabetes have to lose a little weight. I know if I had paid attention to my doctor when he said to lose a little weight, I might not have Diabetes today. But, no – that would have been way too easy. I had to go and get Diabetes and then lose weight.
As I adjusted my diet – what I eat – so I could control my Diabetes, and lose weight, I discovered a secret. It has to be a secret, if folks aren’t doing it. Am I right?
So, here’s the part where you swear to never tell anyone this secret. Take an oath. Cross your heart. Pinky swear. Never to utter this secret to anyone. Have you done it? Can I go on with the big reveal? I’ll wait until you have sworn a blood oath if I need to….Are you ready?
Okay, I’m just going to trust you, now.
The Super Secret Diet Ingredient is…(drum roll)…WATER.
Yep. Water. And, it’s not about how much water you drink, but when you drink it. When is the key. Not going to tell you when, yet…so don’t go thinking I am just going to blurt out all of the Super Secret at once, I will point out that I am not mentioning a pill…or a powder. I am just talking about plain, clear water. Nothing to sell you here.
When I made my first big adjustment to eating a lower carb diet, I was hungry when I had finished eating. I literally thought, “Is that all there is?” When you go from 200 carb meals to 55 carb meals like I did, there is a lot less food; that’s just a fact of life. It’s not like I am telling you a secret, am I?
I was hungry when I finished eating, or when my food was gone. I wanted more. Then again, I wanted Diabetes less, so being hungry was okay. In a few weeks – not much time as I look back on it, I learned a secret…the Super Secret. I started drinking a glass of water before I ate. A full glass of water. Not a cup. A glass that about equals one of those half-liter bottles of water.
What happened? Well, first, I relaxed. No clue as to why that happened, it just did. Perhaps it happened just because I had to slow down and drink the water? Then, I noticed that I wasn’t as hungry when I my food was finished. The water helped ‘fill me up.” Water became one of my weapons to use in my diet to fight my War On Diabetes.
According to what I have learned, it doesn’t work for everyone, but it works for many people. Give it a try; what do you have to lose? A few pounds?
And, take a look at this if you want to prevent Diabetes, or have Prediabetes. Water has magical properties! Okay, maybe not magical, but certainly amazing benefits!
As always, thank you for reading. Remember, water is your secret weapon in your War On Diabetes for appetite suppression and weight loss which lead to control.
