Independence…True Independence

I was going to totally ignore the July 4th holiday in the blog.  You just know it’s going to be over done – kind of like really bad BBQ.  But, then I got to thinking about what independence means; what it has come to mean to me specifically, and I just couldn’t pass it up.

It took a war to gain our independence from Great Britain.  It took courage and discipline for those visionaries who we call our Founding Fathers (and I would bet there were a number of unrecognized Founding Females/Mothers who never seem to get credit).  The fight had to be fought in the name of a concept…an idea…that people were willing to die for.  And, people to this day flock to our shores for that same idea: Freedom.

Well, the War On Diabetes must be fought so you can gain your independence from the disease.  So you can gain Freedom from its grip.

The War On Diabetes is a war for freedom from a disease.  It’s a war that can be won.  The battles are against weight for most of us.  Once the weight is controlled, a lot of other things fall into line like blood pressure, cholesterol, and A1c numbers.  The war on weight is really a daily meal-by-meal battle that asks one basic question: Do you like yourself more than you like that cookie, pie, potato chip, BBQ, or other food?  Am I simplifying? Perhaps, but not by much.  And, when you tear away the junk, it’s the same question I had to answer; and, am answering again today.  Add a bit of regular exercise and your War On Diabetes, or Prediabetes, becomes easier.

Do you like yourself more than you like Diabetes?  Then, declare Your Independence and declare War On Diabetes!  Today. Now.  Don’t hesitate.  Just do it.  Then fight like you mean it.

Fight – and you will control Diabetes; you will control a disease!  You can.  You will.  Know it.  Believe it.  I do.

Declare your Independence, now.

As always, thank you for reading.  And, for the American’s reading – Happy July 4th.
