Your New Best Friend

The biggest contributor to your success in fighting your War On Diabetes, besides you, is your doctor.  They can do so much to assist you, and yet not everyone has that kind of relationship with their doctor.  What a shame!

Over the last few months I have mentioned my doctor a couple of times.  There is no secret he is a big part of my health team and of any success I have had fighting Diabetes.  In fact, he is one of my best advisors I have in my fight.   And, after reading some forum  posts, I get the idea that I am just plain lucky to have him as a doctor.

You know, if your doctor does not support you in your fight; if you doctor does not encourage you; if your doctor does not give you the guidance you need to be successful and victorious over Diabetes – make a change.  It’s just that simple.  Find another doctor who will help you.

“But, Phil, you don’t know how difficult it is with my insurance company”…or, “other doctors are too far away”…or, “they’ve been my doctor for years”…or, well, you understand what I am getting at.  Those are excuses for not finding the right doctor.  My point is once you are diagnosed with Prediabetes or Diabetes, you are in a War and the disease is an insidious enemy.  You need all of the help you can get to get control of it.  If your doctor does not encourage you and is not part of the solution – replace them.

Does that sound harsh?  Harsh is that Diabetes is the 7th Leading Cause of Death in the United States.  No, you aren’t going to die tomorrow from Diabetes.  But, if you don’t have a doctor who will give you the guidance you need from how to lose weight to to diet to getting your A1c under control – get another.

I was saddened when I read a post on a forum from a young Diabetic who was saying their doctor blamed them, the patient, for getting Diabetes.  Do you think that doctor is going to help them fight and overcome the disease?  Of course not.  What can they do?  Get another doctor.

Now, I know that all of you can’t have my doctor, but he is not alone.  There are others who care for their patients.  If you are waging War On Diabetes, your doctor should be there right beside you getting you the meds you need and the advisors you require to be successful.  If not, well, I hope you will find another.

Fight Diabetes.  Wage War On Diabetes.  Control it.  You can do it!  While it is up to you to do, you need the best advisors you can get because you need to win – for yourself and your loved ones.

As always, thank you for reading.
