Did you know Diabetes can effect your eyesight? It’s just one of those “complications” doctors and the medical world talk about.
What can happen? The blood vessels at the back of your eye can become damaged and affect your vision. The best way to guard against this happening? Control your blood sugar. You know how to do that. Diet. Exercise. Meds.
You should have your eyes dilated every year, or get your optometrist or ophthalmologist to take a picture of your retinas each year. Since I drive myself to the optometrist and since I hate anything going near my eyes including eye drops, I went the picture route. Plus, with something as important as my sight, I don’t want to depend on notes in my file and my doctor remembering; I want the photographic record. But, whichever you choose, get it done annually.
I found this video that explains Retinal Photography. It’s short and the guy speaking has a very pleasant Irish accent…okay, that was just an editorial comment on my part.
The best way to prevent any damage to your eyesight from Diabetes is to control your Disease and, to have your eyes examined annually.
As always, thank you for reading.
