Disclaimer: That is not my house. It takes a lot of work to make it look like that! And, I don’t live where there is snow.
I bet you never thought you’d be reading about decorating on a Diabetes blog! Well, never fear, I promise there will not be any tips about how to decorate for the holidays. Disappointed? Maybe I can make it up to you.
I have spent the last few weekends decorating for the holidays. Lights going up outside. Tree and assorted decorations going up on the inside. And I have to tell you the tree smells really great. But, that’s still not going to help you in your fight to control Diabetes, is it?
However, I discovered that all of the going up and down ladders, carrying boxes, putting up lights, re-putting up lights and re-re-putting up lights (my excuse is that they were new lights and different lengths than the old lights) really does count as exercise! In fact my glucose number was a bit lower than normal due to…wait for it…a bit of exercise.
So, don’t be afraid to decorate for the holidays, or just move books or furniture around. Get that stuff out of storage. Move boxes – but remember to lift correctly using your legs. It’s exercise!
As always, thank you for reading.
