Before the big meal tomorrow, make a plan on what you are going to eat. It will make the decisions on what you are putting on your plate so much easier.
You know what the table or buffet will look like. The turkey, ham, and/or beef; the potatoes – at least two or three kinds; the vegetables with the inevitable sting bean casserole; dinner rolls; gravy or au jus…and that’s before dessert. A lot of choices, aren’t there?
I know the only way I survived my first Thanksgiving meal as a diabetic without shooting my glucose through the roof was to have a plan on what I was going to put on my plate. So, I made my little plan and followed it. My plan did not include dessert, and my little plan for tomorrow still does not include desserts. But, guess who is supposed to bring dessert! Talk about irony, right?
Remember, as you look at all of the food that it took a lot of time to prepare it – make sure you tell the cook how great it looks and smells.
As always, thank you for reading.
